FIREARMS TRAINING
SCMLC conducts training days every second Saturday of each month. The training caters for both Rifle and Pistol. Training is via booking only and MUST be emailed to the training email no later than 5pm the Thursday prior.

RIFLE TRAINING

All training days will commence at 9.00am. If you attend a training day without booking-in, you may be turned away if there are not sufficient trainers.

Prior to commencing your training you will be required to provide a copy of AT LEAST ONE of the following forms of proof-of-identity documentation: (This is required to complete the P650)

    • NSW Drivers License (if applicable)
    • Birth Certificate
    • Proof of Age Card
    • Passport

A training session will be held relating to all safety aspects of firearms. A written examination will be conducted where you will be required to obtain 100% in section 1, and NO less than 80% in section 2. To assist with preparing for this examination you are required to read the Firearms (Longarms) User Guide.  CLICK HERE  Once you have successfully completed the examination you will be required to undertake a practical component.

The cost of the Rifle Safe Handling course is:

    • Members: $130.00
    • Non-Members: $150.00
    • Minors (under 18): $75.00

PISTOL TRAINING

All training days will commence at 9.00am. If you attend a training day without booking-in, you may be turned away if there are not sufficient trainers.

Pistol Training is broken down into 5 Stages.

Stages are as follows:

STAGE 1

You must be a financial member of SCMLC.

STAGE 2

A training session will be held relating to all safety aspects of firearms. A written examination will be conducted where you will be required to obtain 100% in section 1, and NO less than 80% in section 2. You can use the Long Arms User Guide to assist in preparation for this examination. Once you have successfully completed the examination you will be required to undertake a practical component. After successful completion of STAGE 1 you will be given a Pistol Safe Handling Completion Certificate.

STAGE 3

Complete the online Application for your Category H Probationary Pistol License. You will be required to attach your Pistol Safe Handling Completion Certificate to the online application. You CANNOT continue with any further training until you have received your Probationary Pistol License.

STAGE 4

Once you have your Probationary Pistol License contact the trainers on the email to start your training: training.scmlc@gmail.com

STAGE 5

This section comprises of 3 separate training sessions with different trainers. Your training will be safe handling and operation of all firearm types used at SCMLC. These will include the following:

    • Cap & Ball Revolver
    • Single Action Revolver
    • Double Action Revolver
    • Semi-Automatic Pistol

You must be able to demonstrate safe handling and operation of all these firearms. When you have completed Stage 5, you will be issued with a COMPLETION CERTIFICATE PISTOL FIREARMS SAFETY TRAINING (PPL) COURSE. During all stages of your training will be under the direct supervision of a qualified trainer. Please note if you fail to meet the requirements set out by NSW Police Firearms Registry SCMLC Trainers will notify F.A.R that for have failed to complete the safety training. After you have completed your Firearms Safety Training and have held your Probationary Pistol License for 6 months you will be eligible to apply for your first PTA to purchase a handgun.
